So, I'm sick again. I don' think that this is the same "traveler's diarrhea" that hit me a couple of weeks ago, though. I feel horrible. In fact, today I haven't been able to poop at all, but I have sharp pains in my lower stomach and my body aches everywhere. Given a few of my symptoms, which I won't describe in great detail, I'm slightly worried that I may have intestinal bleeding. I don't know how to go to a hospital here or how to make an insurance claim if I do end up needing to go (which I probably won't, but you never know). While I'm sure I'll be fine and et cetera, my brain can't help wondering what would happen if I got REALLY sick and had to end my internship early and go home to get medical treatment. Like, would I still be able to get credit for the work I did? Would I get any money back for the weeks I had to cancel? Would it all be for nothing? If someone had to operate on my guts, they're sure as heck not going to do it in this country. I've seen a couple of students with healing surgical scars, and one student's hand was swollen and GREEN.
If I have to be sick while I'm here, I'm at least glad that I live with a doctor. I'm on a couple meds now and should be better in a few days. Until then, my guts are having a knife-fight to the death. I don't know if my stomach or my intestines will win, but either way, I feel like a loser right now.
In better, more positive news, I finally made it to church today! Granted, I was 35 minutes late, but it turned out to be special meeting day so I got to stay for the second meeting! Thankfully, it wasn't until after I got back home that my sickness worsened, so I spent all afternoon in bed.
