Warning: graphic bodily-function content in this post

I've been having bowel problems. If you're sure you still want to read, by all means do, but be warned that I'm talking frankly of something that seems to happen to many folks who travel to foreign countries with less-than-clean food.

So, nearly two weeks ago, I finally passed a stool after four days of constipation which followed one day of diarrhea. This victory came with a price, though, as I was surprised to find that I'd also passed bright red blood. Concerned, I talked to Conny and Renat, (a conversation I really didn't want to have: I was embarrassed and wasn't sure how to describe my symptoms in Spanish) who suggested that I might see a doctor. Conny bought me a ton of prune things, like plums, prune baby food, prune yogurt, and prune juice, and for two days I ate nothing but fruit (papaya, mango, etc.). That cured me in 24 hours, and for the next week and a half I thought I was fine and regular and all that. Last night, though, I passed more blood and mucous, and so I asked Conny to see the doctor. Renat examined me here in the house, and he thinks that I have hemmorrhoids and/or parasites or a bacterial infection caused by some of the typical food here. Today, I have the morning off of work as I'm staying home to rest and try to, er, deposit some samples into cups for the lab. Hopefully it won't be anything too serious and I can start treatment right away!
